Here's something to add to your calendar

Ever since the Rusty Nuts called it a day with their annual Grand Challenge, some of us have been feeling a bit glum. Yes, there are other rides we can go on but nothing quite the same as that annual North Island excursion... 1,600km in 24 hours... the route secret until 7:00pm the night before the start... wondering what the weather's going to be like... who's going to be there this year...

So rather than sulk, a small group of us have decided to get our As into G and organise a 1,600km ride for this coming October.

We're still evaluating a start/finish location -- which will either be in Taupo or Turangi -- and the practicalities of some other event features. This is important as we're in start-up mode and don't have cash reserves to draw upon.

We've got lots of work to do and will keep you updated as events unfold.

We're also keen to hear from people prepared to volunteer their time as checkpoint Marshalls, Event control room members, scrutineers and other really important non-riding roles.

We want to have a really enjoyable, memorable and safe event and see this as being an event run BY distance riders FOR distance riders.

So please sign up for our newsletter on the Home Page, fill out the feedback form on the Contacts Page and let us know if you're prepared to get involved in the organisation and delivery of the North Island 1,600 event.

Thanks heaps! ^BS
