Flavours of the NI1600 for 2025...

It's always good to try something new, right? Well this year your friendly NZ Distance Riders Organising Group have created something new for you to try. Don't panic, this isn't mandatory as it's clearly not for everyone...

Firstly in order for this to be an option for you, you must already be entered for the NI1600. There are 40 riders entered to do the NI1600 at this point, 12 of which are due to start at a later date, as part of their 'Double Badger'. Those 12 are currently down to start the NI800 on the event weekend.

To all 40 of you, we have an offer - if you want to opt to start the NI1600 on the day, then you can chose to participate in the NZDR NI1600 Rally - the first of it's kind, ever.

If none of those 12 riders chose to swing their event weekend ride to the NI1600, then that leaves 28 NI1600 riders who are our potential starting group for the inaugural NI1600 Rally, well strictly 26, as neither Stella, or myself (Chris) will be participating because we've been creating the rally pack; and while we could participate, but agree not to place, Stella didn't want to show the rest of you up, and so we've decided to ride in the NI1600 Classic option instead.

That's right! - If the idea of a Rally doesn't excite you, then you're free to chose to do the NI1600 Classic on the day, Roger Route-master has come up with another excellent route for the 'normal' NI1600 riders to do if they don't fancy the extra challenge of planning for the Rally...

NI1600 Rally or NI1600 Classic - it's your choice.

So what is the Rally?

- Well, hold your horses there chum! There will be an email coming to you all (the 40 of us) with the Rally Rules on Thursday 18th September. Just the rules at that point. They're only 7 pages long, but we want to make sure you all get a good chance to read, and comprehend them fully. - So for 1 week that's all you get.

On the following Thursday evening, you'll get the remainder of the Rally Pack, this will include the Rally Book (listings of all of the bonuses), a CSV file listing of all of the Bonuses, along with some mapping files, (.GPX / .KML etc).

From that point, you'll have TWO CLEAR weekends to plan, and the associated week day time too, before you turn up at Ohakune. This SHOULD BE PLENTY for you to have a good crack at that Rally Pack, ask questions online, and figure out what you need to do.

On Friday at Ohakune, you should have a pretty solid idea if you're going to attempt the Rally or not, if you are, then let them know at Registration as soon as you can. - This will make a difference to what you have to do on the Saturday before the start. - All will be laid our clearly for you as we work through this.

At any point along the way over the next few weeks, if you have questions, please ask.
