This year there are two 1KC rides. One starts and ends in Hamilton. One starts and ends in Wellington.
The Hamilton 1KC Ride

The Wellington 1KC Ride

Check-in opens from 6:30am – 7:00am. Depart when you’re ready.
There’s also an organised start from Masterton and Manawatu riders start early to restart from Wellington then finish back at Palmerston North. Details for these other start points will be advised.
This year’s route is about 1,016km via: (* denotes where a digital picture is required and ? are mystery locations to be announced in the Rider Instructions that will be emailed to registered riders before the official start date).
Rimutakas – Masterton – Alfredton* – Pahiatua – Manawatu Gorge – Rangiwahia* – Tihoi* – Taupo – Puketapu* – ?* – Elsthorpe – Waipukurau – ?* – Wimbledon – Woodville* – Arrival destination to be announced.
Refreshments and meals will be available at a destination yet to be announced to enjoy over the trading of tales of fact and fiction. The usual ending venue, the Parrot and Jigger, is not available and a suitable biker-friendly hostelry is being selected. Confirmation of the venue will be communicated in the Rider Information notes emailed to registered riders prior to the start.
Both routes described here are approximations. Make sure you’re entered to receive the detailed Rider Instructions!
Spread the word!
1KC rides are pretty social events, so spread the word around your riding buddies. This year’s routes are amazing and will be made even better by some stunning late spring weather (which the Organising Group will take full responsibility for if it is indeed “stunning”).
Value for money
The entry fee of $20.00 per participant (to be paid by riders AND pillions) is good value for a great cause. The residual funds after rider badges are paid for goes to Muscular Dystrophy.
Badges and certificates will be awarded after scrutineers have checked Check-Point photo evidence at the completion of the ride.
As this is an informal ride, you and your bike are your responsibility to ensure both are capable of completing the course. There is no recovery vehicle organised.
A register of starting riders will be kept to ensure everyone returns. The Ride Instructions will include a contact number to be called if riders withdraw.
There are spot prizes funded by Protecta Insurance, which has also made a generous donation to the Muscular Dystrophy coffers.
1KC rides are not a race and should be easily doable at a sedate pace with stops. Enjoy the ride!
The ride will go ahead rain, hail or shine – probably – or pending the Wednesday/Thursday before’s weather forecast.
